THE SESSIONS
The ability to present yourself and your ideas to several different audiences/clients through clear, regular and varied communication will help to ensure that you maintain productive working relationships in the long term as well as secure new work.

This interactive workshop will help you improve your communication skills and confidence levels as well as help you decide what type of communication is appropriate and when.

It will also help you develop a clearer focus on the talents and skills that you’ve got to offer and how to put them across in the best possible light.

Learn through practise
There will be several practical and enjoyable exercises and role plays for you to participate in throughout the day at every opportunity.

SESSION 1
10.30am – 1.00pm
Tutors: Frances Dredge and Miranda Gavin
COMMUNICATION METHODS THAT MAKE IMPACT
If you’re relying heavily on one form of communication (e.g., email), this session will help you to re-think your strategy to achieve better results. This session will include teaching and role play in:
• Communication methods: what works best, when and why
• Planning your objectives: make impact on every occasion
• Developing key messages: what makes you so special?
• Assessing your target audience: tuning in to your clients’ needs
• Targeting your key messages to different audiences: what’s in it for them?
• Taking action: agreeing on what to do next and doing it
• Taking the initiative: follow up and follow through.

LUNCH
1pm – 2pm
You’ll get the chance to network with peers and seek further information and advice over lunch (served free of charge).

SESSION 2
Session 2: 2.00-4.00pm
Tutors and contributors: Kate Willoughby, Alyn Gwyndaf, Frances Dredge and Miranda Gavin
FACE-TO-FACE COMMUNICATION
Whether at a formal interview or informal gathering, meeting people can be the best way to make a great (or terrible) impression. As such opportunities are usually few and far between, it’s crucial to make the most of them through both what you say and the way that you say it. This session will include teaching and role play in:
• Creating empathy: tuning in to your audience and getting them to feel good about you
• Using positive body language: non-verbal communication that works
• Conveying your key messages in any situation: you don’t have to be an aggressive sales person to get people interested in what you do.
