- Combining interviews and sequences of clips in iMovie to create video stories (for example, an actor spotlight or reporting on an event)
- Learning iMovie editing techniques and tricks, including audio fades, slo-mo, effects, use of images and titles
- Introduction to live-streaming with your iPhone/iPad plus tips for using other video-related apps
- Uploading video to platforms such as YouTube and Facebook or your website/blog.
Who should attend?
This workshop is aimed at freelance members who use iPhone or iPad, have some experience and want to improve their skills including those who have already attended our ‘How to Shoot and Edit with iPhone/iPad or “Mobile video kick-starter with iPhone/iPad’ workshops. You will need to have at least tried to use the video function on your iPhone before and now want to go further to understand and practise the editing skills available on iMovie. It would also be helpful if you have at least tried editing video with iMovie.
Expected learning outcomes
This workshop aims to help you improve and expand your shooting and editing skills on iPhone/iPad including through learning more about various techniques that will help you produce videos of better quality and more impact for your specific purpose (see content).
What should I bring?
You will need to bring your own iPhone (5, 6, 7) or iPhone/iPad mini. You must have the free Quik video editor app and iMovie app already installed. Other apps may be downloaded during the workshop, so please bring your password for the Apple App Store, plus login details for social media accounts (if relevant). It will help if your mobile’s software and apps are up to date and the device memory is not full.
We have a limited number of tripods and stands for use during the workshop. However, if you have your own, please bring it.

I would like to apply for this course as I am a former producer now working online and it is fundamental that I could shoot and upload short videos for my news stories. I previously have worked with a cameraman, but now editors and broadcasters want journalists to multi-task. This is the only skill that I lack to continue my work as multimedia journalist and a segment producer. I currently work work as independent journalist and will highly appreciate the video shooting course on iPhone or iPad. Many thanks in advance!
